Garden Bird Surveys

Each year pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th classes take part in the Winter Garden Bird Survey run by BirdWatch Ireland, of which the school is a member. From December to February we have been checking what birds visit the gardens of Cobh! The pupils check their own gardens and in school we see what birds come to the school grounds. Our bird table, therefore, is a great centre of activity right through the year. At the end of February we put together all the results and the following are the Top Ten Birds that visited Cobh’s gardens since 1995.

Winter Garden Bird Survey 2008/2009

35 pupils from Rang a Cúig & Rang a Sé took part in the annual Winter Garden Bird Survey. This is run by BirdWatch Ireland and the school has been a member of this environmental organisation for a number of years now. The Top 10 birds this year are: 1) Rook, 2) Goldfinch, 3) Robin, 4) Blackbird, 5) Starling, 6) Magpie, 7) Chaffinch & Blue Tit, 8) Great Tit, 9) Song Thrush, 10) House Sparrow. 30 species were seen altogether.
