Cork City Sports 2010
The postponement of the Cork City Sports because of the unavailability of Páirc Uí Chaoimh meant that some 6th class boys could not take part as it was re-scheduled for the date of our school tour to Dublin. These boys were Cian Humphries, Davin Whelan & Eoghan O’Flynn. However, all the other boys acquitted themselves very well and particular congratulations to George Keating who finished in second place in his sprint! Our full team was: Joshua Meredith, Ciarán Ahern, Simon Doyle, Neil Harte, George Keating, Jack McCarthy, Con Lynch, Joe Khan-Moss, Eoin Kelly, Diarmaid Kearney, Jack Hallahan, Joshua Crone, Darragh Burke & Joey Sheehan.
Edmund Rice Blitz
The Edmund Rice Hurling Blitz for schools with a Christian Brothers or Presentation Brothers connection in Co. Cork was held on June 15th in Cork. Teams came from Charleville CBS, Midleton CBS, North Monastery, Scoil Chríost Rí, Mahon and Cobh. Our boys performed very creditably by winning one match and drawing another, which got them to the semi-final stage where they were narrowly beaten by North Monastery. Well done to Ciarán Leahy, Neil Harte, Dylan Higgins, Niall Spriggs, Edward Lane, Aaron Dolan, Jeffrey McCarthy, Simon Doyle, Conor Kelly, Zak Devlin, George Leating, Stephen Burke & Olan Mackey.
Sraith Peile 2010
70 pupils took part in this year’s football league, which was run by Mr. Farrell & Br. Athanatius. The games were held after school and we would like to thank Coláiste Muire for the use of the field throughout the last two terms. The captains this year were: Charlie Fleming, Ben Hade, Cian Humphries, Eoin Murphy & David O’Connor. The eventual winners were Ben’s team with Cian’s team in second place. Well done to all who took part for the commitment they gave to their team during the league.Ficheall 2010
40 pupils took part in this year’s Chess competition which was organised by Mr. McSweeney. The games took place over the last two terms at lunchtime in the school hall. As usual we had some great games over the running of the competition! Our ‘Grand Master’ for this year is David O’Connor. In second place is Dylan Higgins with the two third places going to Brian Ronayne & Dean Cronin. Well done to all who took part.
Hurling Coaching
Cobh Juvenile GAA
have organised coaching sessions under the expert guidance of Mr.
Christy Kidney (Cork) for the boys in Rang a hAon, Rang a Dó,
Rang a Trí and Rang a Ceathair. These sessions took place for seven
weeks before Christmas and have also been going on for seven weeks up
to the Easter holidays. The boys have really enjoyed these sessions
and have learned a lot of new skills. Many thanks to Christy and his
helpers from Cobh GAA:
Anthony O’Beirnes, Colin Damery, Willie O’Donovan, John O’Connor
& Donncha Spriggs.
Indoor Hurling Blitzes
In January and
February our school took part in two indoor hurling blitzes in
Carrigtwohill, one for Rang a Trí and one for Rang a Ceathair. In
each case the opposition proved too strong for our teams and although
some wins were recorded we did not manage to reach the finals on
either day. However, our pupils very well overall and put in a great
effort.
